Death story

Note: The following Poem is in memory of Rizwan, a student of National Law Institute University who died in a car accident day before yesterday.

You wake up in the morning,
To hear of someone’s death.
You don’t know him ,
Neither have you heard of him,
But you know he has been around.
He died last night in an accident somehow,
He was not drunk , not high,
And it wasn’t his fault either .
But yes he died somehow.

All around you have people,
But something breaks within you ,
Everyone stands in silence .
But a soul shrieks within you.
There should be some outlet ,
For your sadness , for your tears ,
For your frustration and your pain.
Your misery , your shame ,
Your anger , your disdain ,
Your love , your sympathy,
All look for an avenue ,
But look around who cares ?
After two minutes,
We are a happy lot once again.
It rained for two minutes today ,
I guess even nature had only so much to shed.

The departed soul calls thee,
Whom should you blame ?
He who was driving ?
Or he who did not allow them to enter the premises,
Yes they were late !
So what it’s a part of the college game,
You don’t turn them out , they are young ,
Immature, brash, they often make mistakes.

But the warden ain’t a soothsayer ,
He did not know that was happening tonight ,
They were driving rash and they met their fate,
Science played its part , All laws of physics applied,
They got hurt and before someone got some aid,
The soul left the body for its eternal grave.

Life feels vulnerable , after listening of death,
All we can do is remember him in our prayers ,
Whosoever he was, he should be at peace with himself.
He is gone now ,
Leaving his family , his beloved behind ..
I think , I ponder , I try my hardest to sense,
But still I guess none can feel their pain.
I had never seen him , never heard him ,
But yes he was around,
Last night he died somehow.

Tere bina

Aajkal Din Acche Nahi Guzarte,
Rukha Lagta Hai Yeh Savera,
Tere Nam Hoth Hote Toh Kami Poori Ho Jaati Saari,
Ho Jata Iss Dil Main Khushiyon Ka Dera.

Aajkal Sab Khali Khali Lagta Hai,
Ujdi Lagti Hai Yeh Shaam,
Tera Saath Hota Toh Haath Thaam Leti Tera,
Bann Jaata Harr Bigda Kaam.

Aajkal Main Muskurati Nahi,
Banjar Ho Gayi Hain Raatein,
Tere Paas Baithkar Tujhe Mehsus Karti,
Karti Tujhse Dher Saari Baatein.

Bahut Pyaar Karti Hun Main,
Dil Se Chahati Hun Tujhko,
Gar Kareeb Hoti Main Tere,
Toh Bata Paati Apna Haal Kuch Kuch Toh.

A letter to god

One Sunday night I decided to write

A letter to the Almighty…

But What to write…

I had everything to fulfil my needs

I thought over and over In perplexity

A day or two passed and I remained confused.

I resisted to the idea Of writing a letter

On one Wednesday evening I went to my cousin’s house

While travelling across the city in the febrile atmosphere

Suddenly I encountered some poor people

Feeling terrible at seeing there pitiable condition

My mind rethought the idea of that letter

And I wrote the letter to God

sent it through the holy river

praying may these poor people come out of their miseries and gain happiness In their life

I offered a bunch of bananas and fruits to those Poverty stricken people…

A message from those young married hearts-

Everyone has the right to dream but this is not true for millions of girls in many states of India. Today we are talking and debating on girls right to education and health, what about their right to dream?? Shouldn’t that be dealt with first? Before they can even begin to realize their aspirations, they are forced into marriage. At the tender age of 14-15 they are expected to be a wife, sexual partner, mother, & daughter-in-laws. One third of the marriages in India are child marriages. We all are aware about the statistics, and never fail to quote them, without realizing their actual implication and effects on the poor little child. Sadly, we fail to see the plight of the child bride. What about getting physically, mentally and sexually exploited every night and being unable to object? What about getting pregnant as a child yourself, and facing multiple abortions? These are much greater than the daily stresses that we face in our own lives. In many states of India sex ratio is strikingly low. A girl child either gets killed by forced abortion or if she somehow manages to be born she will be killed by boiling milk, by being buried alive or being suffocate to death in earthen pots. Resulting into the groom’s family giving money to bride’s family because very few girls are left for marriage and it becomes more like auctions, considering that the parents are normally economically weak .The parents then force their daughter to marry. This poem is about a girl called Shampa in conversation with her mother, forcing her to get married. The question I raise is- “Is it a curse being a girl? Because either you will die on the day you are born or luckily if you somehow survive your dreams will be killed every single day.

“JASHAN-E-TAJ MAHAL”: PRIDE OF BHOPAL

bhopal taj mahal

Friends let me tell you something about the Taj Mahal. Now before you skip this page what if I tell you that this Taj Mahal is not in Agra but in Bhopal, what if I tell you that this is situated in the heart of the city, yet unknown to most of the people. So still willing to flip the page? No? I knew you wouldn’t.

Taj Mahal or Jashan -e-Taj Mahal as it was called when it was built was constructed over a 13 year span from 1871 to 1884 by the Begum of Bhopal Sultan Shah Jahan.
It was built as the Begum’s residence, at a cost of just Rs. 30 lakh, don’t you wonder how it was built so cheaply? Well it was not cheap even in those days, actually when inflation adjusted its construction cost of Rs.30 lakh would be equivalent to 50-100 crore!
The building was originally named Raj Mahal or the royal palace, The British Resident in Bhopal, highly impressed with the architecture, suggested that the palace be renamed the Taj Mahal.
It was not the only building to be built in that Era, Taj Mahal was built as part of a complex of monuments such as the Benazir Palace (the begum’s summer residence) and the Taj-UL-Masjid (one of the largest mosques in Asia), along with three surrounding lakes.

I first went to this palace 5 years back and was dumbstruck to see its vastness and beauty. In fact, after it was constructed it looked so beautiful that the Begum celebrated its foundation for three years with what was called “Jashn-e-Taj Mahal.’’ That’s how the name or Jashan –e-Taj Mahal was born. The palace includes 120 rooms, a Sheesh Mahal and an elaborate fountain structure called “Savan bhadon” that simulated the effect of rain. The architecture of the palace is quite complex, with a large number of passages and stairs that can puzzle any layman, but they added more than beauty to the palace, they served a purpose, back in its functional days.
Like many other palaces this was built in a very scientific manner ,its architecture keeps it cool in the summer and all the rooms are well ventilated .The wind blowing from the lakes keeps the palace cool, while the three lakes themselves are a fine example of surface-water harvesting. One can feel the difference in temperature even in the ruins. It’s a typical Indo-Saracen building, with very few closed spaces.

Apart from having a rich but brief history the palace has also served many purposes; be it being used as an accommodation for the ministers or as a refugee camp for the Sindhi refugees who came down to Bhopal after the partition of India in 1947.The conversion of the palace to a refugee camp was ordered and personally supervised by Nawab Hamidullah Khan.. The refugees stayed in Taj Mahal for around 4 years, before shifting to Bairagarh. The palace suffered some damage during this period.

After India’s independence, some members of the royal family of Bhopal stayed in the palace, but gradually moved away, as they had no money for the repair and maintenance.
Though it has been a marvelous piece of architecture and a witness of the glorious Navab culture in Bhopal, today it largely remains neglected and is turning into ruins. With many walls collapsed, its structure has crippled.
The palace was declared a state heritage monument by the government of Madhya Pradesh and the state archaeology department carried out restoration process in parts, but it came as too little too late, as the damage done to it by time has been irreparable for the restoration team nor has the craftsmanship of that era ever been successfully duplicated by any modern machine and techniques. What started out as the jewel of Bhopal, that many other rulers envied, has turned into rubble by Mother Nature and the negligence of the government. With crumbling walls, faded colors and the plaster long gone, the facade is so unimpressive that you are likely to miss it unless you are looking specifically for Taj Mahal, which was one of the biggest palaces of that time and much admired for its beauty.
But if you are an explorer and have an interest in history, you cannot afford to miss this place, because as the saying goes ‘old is gold’ and it stands very much true for this place, as it might have lost its luster and beauty but it is still a 128 year old structure standing tall and has history up to the brim.

North Korea: triggering a nuclear crisis ?

In recent days the newspapers and digital media are filled with the news that the North Korea and South Korea border are going to be the next nuclear flash point after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Now before we start calculating the odds of this macabre it would be justified if I start with what went so wrong in the past that we stand today in the fear of a nuclear war.

Long ruled by the Mongols in the distant past the Korean region was occupied by the Japanese imperial army after the 1910 Japanese intrusion in the region, after the defeat of Japan in World War II by the United States of America, USSR and USA in 1945, agreed to the surrender of Japanese forces in Korea. The Soviet troops occupied parallel, which is the official border between North and South Korea .US troops took south of it. This decision by allied armies soon became the basis for the division of Korea by the two superpowers.
In the lap of USSR, North Korea opted a highly communist regime and the South Korea on other hand became a democratic republic and an ally of USA.
But this rule of the super powers was not perpetual as we all know today; the super powers abandoned both the Korean nations in 1949 giving a highly militarized North Korea a good opportunity to capture the South, which it did soon. A furious US along with UN troops returned back to the south Korea trying to push back the northern communist army, but failed, and the communist army penetrated the south as deep as the capital Seoul, but this victory as easy as it seemed was ephemeral, due to lack of proper commanding and mobilization of troops and artillery to the occupied region, soon the US army pushed the communist army back as far as to the border with China.
An intimidated China fearing a further escalation of American forces warned to intervene if the US troops didn’t go back, but the US gave a deaf ear to this warning, which strategically proved fatal to them as China entered the war in no time and sided the communist army, thus the US army was sent back till Seoul. This created a more tensed atmosphere which was to stay for a couple of more years, till a UN decision again declared the 38th parallel as the international boundary between North and South Korea.

The rough history of North Korea seconds the fact that it doesn’t have diplomatic ties with any county except Russia and China and has seen many sanctions against it both by the US and the UN, primarily for developing nuclear weapons. In fact is infamously called the “Axis of evil”. These sanctions though having crippled the North’s economy ,have failed to bring any change in the ideology of the north Korean leaders, who still blame the US and the South Korea for the sanctions imposed on them and have sworn not to abandon their nuclear program at any cost. North’s nuclear program has been criticized by a majority of nations including the UN, and is feared by many that it can be used against South Korea or Japan. The North Korean governance has shown no maturity in shunning off these fears and continues to threaten the South of a nuclear Armageddon till date.

Many intellectuals refuse to believe that North has the capability to launch a nuclear missile, even the disgraces Pakistani nuclear scientist A.Q Khan overtly stated that ‘North Korea is not so immature to launch a nuclear attack and bring and end to it self, as a single atomic bomb dropped on its soil by the US would wipe it off from the face of the Earth’
But the US has taken the nuclear threats seriously and doesn’t want to engage it self in another war in a time when its economy is still recovering from the huge losses of the previous two wars and a global economic melt down.
Even allies of North Korea like Russia and China are trying to digress from the very though of a war (nuclear war). China’s worry being that a war would certainly bring and end to the communist North and would bring a hostile US army and alley South Korea right next to its border.
Which ever possibility a healthy human mind can think off doesn’t seems to be a positive one if a war brakes out, because this wont be like Iraq or Afghan war where a mighty US army can win without a scratch on its face, God forbid but if it happens it will go down deep into the history books as the main pretext for a colossal man-made catastrophe which would affect every human life on Earth.

Ignorance

Living life day by day
Our rules our way
With colorful shades of gray

when our world was shiny and bright
Ignoring our inner light
we missed a very important sight

Dancing to the latest tune
Snatching away the ice cream cone
A real caring friend stood all alone

When the road ahead was unclear
Head and Heart was full of fear
Mother always silently stood near

Wanted to fly high in the air
Risking everything that we care
Ignored the love in father’s glare

Burning with ego and self-pride
Treating life as a roller-coaster ride
Threw away the happiness from our side

Stubborn with our every choice
Fake success made us rejoice
Refusing the god’s own voice

With each other we hardly agreed
Killing self with our own greed
Wanting always more than needed

Later in life we will realize,
We lived it full of lies,
Our eyes were closed to every surprise.

Our eyes opened very late
Call it destiny or fate
Now closed is every gate.

India’s population – asset or liability ?

In his theory of population, Malthus stressed the need of keeping the population within limits to the point he called ‘Optimum’. This is the point which decrease or increase when population affects the overall well being of a society or nation. If the population is less than it is said to be an underdeveloped country and if the population is more than it is said to be an underdeveloped country.
But India’s billion plus population is expected to overtake that of China by the middle of the century. It is being increasingly regarded by the policy planner of India that the population is not a liability rather it is an asset that can prop the country to economic greatness.
There are many countries in Africa which are sparsely populated but are among the most backward countries of the world. Does a small population guarantee you a place in the front-line of developing nations? No friends no…not that anyone is encouraging people to have more children- quite the opposite but the new thinking in the government circle is that India’s Population should be used to illustrate the country’s huge potential both in economic and political fields.
Experts say on just 2.4% of global landmass 16% of the global population are living.
Successive Indian Governments have been faced with the problems of how to reduce the ever increasing pressure on ever dwindling resources.
Now its massive workforce is seen as country’s greatest resource to harness. Nowadays it is seen that whatever problem, the country is facing, today that is due to its population. Yes I agree population does dilute the results and achievements of many plans and policies but that’s just the one side of the coin. With far sighted vision and planning suited to the local needs, taking into account the unique features of our nation, it is possible to achieve a lot. One billion plus brains can change nation’s destiny. The Government’s record says that 402million Indians are aged between 15 to 59 the working age and this number will grow to 820million by 2020.
Economists such as Jayate Ghosh of Jawaharlal Nehru University advocate large doses of investments in health, education , infrastructure and sanitation, if India wants to take advantage of its work force and opportunities.
China has proved that population is an asset and if invested heavily in human resources and equitably distributed, a nation can reach dazzling heights. China is emerging as a competitor to U.S.A. In many fields. If China can do this then why can’t we?
India will also need to improve its 20-30% of the population which are currently below the poverty line. This is vital if India wants to convert its huge population into demographic bonus or dividend.
The large country like India can achieve the impossible with decentralized enterprise and planning.
I end with a quotation- “It is good to have a giant’s strength but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant”.

The Mask I wear

Every Morning I wake up with a mask,
to hide my feeling is the only task,
to smile and laugh on the side of lake,
But inside I know its all fake.
The story of my life has never been said ,
Everyone here says they love me ,
But I know it’s all fake ,
As what they love is just my mask.
The true face of my life has never been shown,
My Heart is burning
My smile is frowning,
Laughing comes out as weeps,
My happiness is always sad
Deep Inside Iam bleeding , screaming ,
Deep Inside Iam dying,
Everyone tells me they love me,
But I know it’s all fake,
As what they love is just my Mask
